Knee/Stifle Conditions

CONDITIONS:

  • Post-operative management of the leg (minus TPLO)
  • Contralateral (opposite) limb management post-operatively
  • Partial tears - average amount of time needed to wear the device (depending on tear) is 6 months to fully stabilize
  • Patellar Luxation –Secondary to use for CCL injuries, BUT are an important application
    • Cannot directly control the patella, since it is such a small bone
      • An effective method to reduce Patellar Luxation (sideways movement) is to limit ROM where the Luxation occurs
      • Luxation usually occurs in deep flexion or full extension
      • Stifle braces reduce the sideways movement, helping the patella to stay in place
  • Contracture Management - using Ultraflex joints, management of flexion OR extension contractures
  • Distal femoral or proximal tibia/fibula fractures, as an alternative to splinting
  • Contracture Option:
    • Used for Contracture Management using an Ultraflex joint or other means to stretch the ligaments to get to a more functional position
Tarsal/Ankle Conditions

Conditions:

  • Primarily used post-operatively from Achilles Tendon repair instead of using an external fixation device which requires drilling into perfectly good bone
  • Two versions: with and without Paw Support Segment
    1. With Paw Segment – Recommended to be added, can always be removed but CANNOT be added later
      • Excellent at evenly distributing pressure
      • Gives more control over the leg with the issue when cat is knuckling
      • Knuckling is common because the superficial digital flexor tendon frequently overrides the injured Achilles tendon
    2. Without Paw Segment - This is advantageous as most cats like to feel their paw hit the ground.
      • Indicated when cat is not knuckling, has a bilateral diagnosis or is very active
  • Contracture Option:
    • Used for Carpal Contracture Management using an Ultraflex joint or other means to stretch the Carpal Flexor Ligaments to get to a more functional position.
Carpal/Wrist Conditions

Conditions:

  • The most common diagnosis when using this brace is Carpal Hyperextension
  • Also used for Angular Deformities of the front leg
    • Carpal Varus – Joint bowed outward
    • Carpal Valgus – Joint bowed inward
  • Also provides support with Radial Nerve Paralysis or Brachial Plexus Avulsions (Tears) Diagnoses
  • Braces also used for Carpal Contracture Management using an Ultraflex joint or other means to stretch the Carpal Flexor Ligaments to get to a more functional position
  • Depending on Diagnosis, braces are made with or without the paw segment, determined case by case
  • Contracture Option:
    • Used for Carpal Contracture Management using an Ultraflex joint or other means to stretch the Carpal Flexor Ligaments to get to a more functional position

Awesome

My cat really hates the brace but he is definitely improving, he doesn't really puts weight on the paw when he has the brace on and kinda drags the leg to walk but I guess that's what's helping for him to get better , only problem is that when we take it off he now feels more confident and its actually trying to jump

Hi Clara,
Great to hear your cat is improving. Many cats do take time to adjust to a brace so we are so happy you are seeing results. Appreciate you taking the time to write us a review.

Best,
Animal Ortho Care
