This purchase includes a casting kit.
Purchase your dog's prosthetic.
We send you a Casting Kit for you to make a mold of your dog's limb.
You ship us the mold. We use it to build a prosthetic for your dog.
We ship you the finished prosthetic. You fit it to your dog. Your dog is on it's way to recovery!
AOC's Full Limb Dog Prosthetic is designed to aid in the relief of the weight bearing leg. Since there is no residual limb to suspend a prosthetic, our full limb prosthesis is suspended off of the body to give added support.
At the current time, AOC's full limb dog leg prosthetic is designed ONLY for the front leg.
For a front leg prosthetic, the amputation must be above the elbow. If it is below the elbow, please consider our Dog Partial Limb Prosthetic.
For a back leg prosthetic, we do not currently fabricate full hind limb prosthetics. If the amputation is below the hock, please consider our Dog Partial Limb Prosthetic. If the amputation is above the hock, please consider our Haute Wheels Pet Wheelchair.
The type of cast that will be required for us to make your dog's full limb prosthetic will depend on your dog's residual/remaining limb shape. Our fabricators will determine what type of cast is needed and we will send you specific instructions with your casting kit.
Please keep in mind that the break-in period and time of each increment will depend on your pet's diagnosis and overall acceptance of the prosthetic.
When casting for a prosthetic it is important that you capture the distal end of the stump. The best way to do that is to keep the cut strip above the distal end of the stump about ½ of an inch, this will help allow you to capture the distal end in full.
If you have any concerns please send pictures and videos to care@aocpet.com.
Purchases of our full limb prosthetics include a free casting kit, which you will use before we begin fabricating the prosthetic itself. Once you have cast your dog's leg - or legs if you are ordering a pair of prosthetics - you will mail us the casts. At that point we craft your prosthetic order based on the cast of your dog's leg, and then send the prosthetic back to you.
Please contact us and we will work with you to find the fit! The hook and loop straps give you some freedom to adjust the prosthetic yourself. Depending on the issues with the fit, we may instruct you to ship it back to us for more extensive modification.
Please note it is imperative that you take an accurate cast of your dog's leg in order for the prosthetic to have the best possible fit. Please refer to our casting directions and be sure that you are familiar with them before attempting a casting.
Refurbishing your dog's prosthetic is easy. Strap replacements are free within the first 90 days of your purchase if you order and replace them yourself. We offer various methods for refurbishing your prosthetic depending on what needs to be done. You can order new Straps (1 inch or 1.5 inch) and Pads to replace on your own. If your dog's prosthetic needs more than just the straps and pads to be replaced, please contact us at care@aocpet.com for the prosthetic refurbishment process.
There is a two-week break-in period where you will gradually increase the time your dog wears their Full Limb Prosthetic by 30 minute increments. Once this period is complete, you may leave the prosthetic on your dog during periods of high activity. However, be sure to remove the prosthetic when your dog is resting or is not active. This allows your dog to lay down as they cannot lay down while wearing the prosthetic, it also prevents irritation and allows their body to air out. Check for any signs of irritation and/or swelling after removing the prosthetic.
Please remove the prosthetic before your dog goes to bed at night.
Your dog will be able to do almost everything with this prosthetic, but it is important to keep in mind that this prosthetic is meant to only be used during times of activity. Your dog will not be able to go upstairs due to the limited range of motion of the prosthetic limb. Most importantly, your dog need to be watched if they are playing with other dogs to ensure the prosthetic does not shift and cause irritation.
Once we receive the cast of your dog's body, it takes 2-4 weeks to fabricate the prosthetic.
We offer free 5-7 business day ground shipping in the US for both the casting kit and custom prosthetic, as well as 2 Business Day or Overnight shipping options for an additional charge. If you select an expedited shipping option, we will ship the casting kit to you based on that option. Once we receive the cast of your dog's leg and fabricate the Custom prosthetic, we will ship that using the same option you selected at checkout.
The difficulty of casting will depend on your dog; more anxious or badly injured dogs may find the process more distressing. It is recommended that you perform the process with at least 3-4 people depending on your dog's energy level.
Detailed instructions on how to cast are included in the casting kit. We can walk you or your veterinarian through the casting process, so please contact us with questions or concerns before you begin casting your dog's leg. We also offer FREE on-site casting at our Arden Hills, Minnesota location.

I was impressed with the speed at which you answer questions and concerns. Casting kit came quickly after ordering the full limb prosthetic. I am very excited to get the finished leg and try it on my dog. I would like to add I have enjoyed Wizard of Paws show.
